Save the Chaffee Zoo

My name is Martina. I live in Fresno, California. I have a love for our Chaffee Zoo. In the 5th grade I went to the zoo school for a week and was able to observe and learn a great deal about animals. I was given the opportunity to see so much about the life of animals. I loved sharing them all with everybody. I even got to the point where I won a writing essay about what I enjoyed most about the zoo school - the animals. Well, right now our Chaffee Zoo is in great trouble. They need money to keep on taking care of our big animals. So I've been finding ways to help contribute money to our zoo.

What I've done is to help out with my class and student government by setting up a donation drive around my high school to support the zoo. What we did was to ask some of our male teachers to participate. We set out cans around our halls and the hall that had received the most money would have that teacher dress up as a female. We earned about $700. It was so much fun and I had a great feeling of achievement.

Another thing I did was to have a car wash with my organization. We did pretty good, and I didn't get a lot of sunburn. We earned about another $300.

These were ways of trying to support the zoo. Unfortunately it isn't enough yet, but I know we'll all keep trying. I want everybody to still have the enjoyment of going to the zoo and to the zoo school. It is a great experience and you learn so much.
