Dear Friends of Action For Nature,

This has been a wonderfully successful year for Action For Nature. Once again the applications submitted for our 2007 International Young Eco Hero Awards were amazing in the high standards that were reached and the wide range of environmental issues tackled. The world-wide applications reminded us that environmental protection has no boundaries. We are filled with hope and confidence that the rising generation of young people on our planet will truly steward the natural world with knowledge and caring.

We were delighted to be invited by the Golden Gate National Park Service to stage an exhibit featuring our 2007 Eco Heroes at the Crissy Field Center in San Francisco's Presidio, within sight of the beautiful Golden Gate Bridge. The exhibit panels tell the story of each 2007 International Young Eco Hero, adding "Interesting Facts" and "What You Can Do" educational information. The exhibit will be on view during October and November.

AFN had information tables during the year at the Society of Environmental Journalists and Board Match (we need some additional board members!). We also gave two workshops at the California Teachers Association conferences.

Media coverage in newspapers, radio and TV has been excellent. Stories have appeared in National Geographic for Kids, the Miami Herald, the Republic in Turkey, India West, and local newspapers in the areas in which our winners reside.

We urgently need your continued financial contributions, whether you are a past or a new supporter. Please tell everyone you know about AFN, our Eco-Hero Awards Program, and our remarkable book Acting for Nature. Young people are our future. Particularly at this time in human history, the natural world, on which all life depends, needs all the understanding, care, and help it can get.

Our Board extends to each of you the greetings of the season, and a wish for Peace and Environmental Progress in the year ahead.

Warmest regards,

Evelyn Ballard de Ghetaldi, M.D.
Chair, AFN Board of Directors

AFN Hosts Young Eco-Heroes Exhibit In San Francisco

Action For Nature mounted an exhibit this fall featuring its 2007 International Young Eco-Heroes at the Crissy Field Center (part of the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy) in San Francisco. The exhibit was a terrific success, and has generated a great deal of interest in AFN and the Eco-Heroes Program.

AFN hosted a reception in conjunction with the exhibit, at which the Honorable Yoriko Kishimoto, Mayor of Palo Alto, presented Young Eco-Heroes Caroline Hodge, of Palo Alto, CA, and Hee Jeong Kim, of Seoul, Korea, with their award certificates. Caroline had inspired her high school classmates to "green" her school. Hee Jeong Kim was recognized for researching how to turn ash from incinerated garbage into a usable commodity.

AFN was delighted to be able to highlight its outstanding Eco-Heroes. For more information about the exhibit, including presentation opportunities, please contact us at mail@actionfornature.org.
